This is one AMAZING cat!! Paige was returning home from Savannah on Interstate 16 one dark night traveling through desolate South Georgia a hundred miles south of Macon. Suddenly she sees this cat running down the median of the Interstate at full speed - obviously limping on three legs.  Paige pulls over onto the side of the Interstate with cars and 18-wheelers flying by at 80 mph. Praying the the cat would not run out into the path of a speeding vehicle, she waits until there is a break in traffic and dashes across 2-lanes of the Interstate and scoops him up.  Miraculously, he waited patiently for her to get to him like he knew that help was on the way and that his guardian angel had arrived. Since the current situation didn't lend itself to a detailed examination of the injured leg, she put the cat on the seat of the car where it quickly curled up in her lap and slept for the remaining 3-hours of the trip home.

Upon arriving at home, an examination of the leg showed that it was in fact severely injured and broken. The poor cat was ravenous and ate like he hadn't eaten for days. The next day we took Runway to a vet where the leg was X-rayed and we discovered that a rifle bullet had shattered the leg at the elbow. He also had 2 or 3 shots pellets embedded under his skin. Because theinjury appeared to be several day old and very swollen, the vet said there was no way it could be reset and recommended we consider amputation. After much consideration, we decided to give him antibiotics and let the wound heal on it owns and see if hewould have any use of it. We could always amputate later if necessary. Surprisingly, the leg healed completely in a couple of weeks, and although he cannot bend it at the elbow (it is bent at a 90-degree angle), he doesn't even know anything is wrong with it. He uses it when he walks, but, he holds it up when he runs and uses only the three good legs when running. Even on three legs he's one of the fastest cats you've ever seen.

Now, you would think that a cat who had been so mistreated would hate and fear humans forever, but in fact, he is one of the most loving and affectionate cat in the world. It's like he fully realizes that we rescued him and wants to show his appreciation with love and affection. We would love to be able to keep him ourselves, but, we have come to realize we just can't keep every pet we foster or rescue. So, he is looking for a VERY SPECIAL home where he will get the love and attention he so righteously deserves and wants. If you are looking for a strong, masculine and extremely brave and loving male cat Runway is your man. He gets alongv ery well with other cats and has become best friends with one of our older, infirm kitties. He's as gentle with him as he can be and they are great snuggling buddies. However,he doesn't tolerate other dominant males, so, if you have another male cat in the household with a strong personality he may not be a good fit.
